How I Lost 45 Pounds by Hacking My Taste and Sensory Receptors

Click HareHi, my name is Tim and over the last year, I’ve been on a deeply personal journey—not just to lose weight, but to understand why I was hungry, tired, and stuck in cycles that traditional advice never really solved.
Through research, trial, and (a lot of) error, I started tapping into the power of food science to regain control of my satiety and energy. I began combining MSG with IMP to naturally trigger my T1R1 umami receptors, which play a direct role in signaling fullness. With every meal, I also drink decaf light roast coffee—not for the caffeine, but for its higher levels of chlorogenic acid (CGA), which helps boost GLP-1, the gut hormone that makes you feel satisfied longer.
I’ve also started adding black pepper (for piperine) and red pepper or chili (for capsaicin) to most of my meals to stimulate T2R and TRPV1 receptors—tiny but mighty players in the body’s satiety and metabolic response.
Movement matters too. Every day I walk my dog for 30 minutes, not just for the steps, but because that shift—from a hypoxic to an aerobic state—has helped reset my metabolism and sharpen my mind.
And perhaps the most overlooked game-changer: creatine. Each night, I take 5 grams to replenish phosphocreatine in my brain—supporting energy levels, mood, and mental clarity, especially after long days.
